Good Samaritans

I read this on Yahoo! today. My Father blogged about this already, but I *HAD* to blog about it too. (thanks in advance, Poppa for writing down what the whole thing as it said in the article. I'm using that piece in my blog. I know you won't mind. Thanks also for the research!)

(quoted and beautifully written from BullDogChief's blog)

Here is what happened; Lisa Torti and Alexandra Van Horn were department store cosmeticians who attended a Halloween Party in 2004. Evidently they left the party in separate cars and Van Horn’s car ran into a light pole at 45 mph. Torti, in her court testimony, said she saw smoke and liquid coming from Van Horn’s car and was worried the car was going to explode. So, what did she do? She pulled her co-worker from the wrecked car and most likely saved her life; except for the fact that Van Horn claims she was rendered a paraplegic because Lisa Torti “treated her like a rag doll” when pulling her from the car. Van Horn sued and the California Supreme Court says she can sue.

WTF!?! *shakes head* WTF?!

Are people this callous? Stupid? GREEDY?!

Okay, first off, the car wreak according to the many articles on this case was self inflicted. (maybe due to drinking? maybe Van Horn was tired and shouldn't have been driving? Ub, isn't that what taxi's are for? Or a close friend/relative that would rather drive this person than allow that tired driver to have an accident? I've allowed my husband to drive me in to work when I'm sick so I don't kill myself nor anyone else. My Dad had the same rule after I started driving. If I was tired, sick, etc and he could come pick me up, then I was to call him and swallow my pride!)

Second, if I was a lawyer on this case on the defense, I would make doubly sure the car wreak itself was the cause of Van Horn's injury. Let's see, 45 mph, lightpole? HELLO! CAUSE OF THE INJURIES! I doubt that even a trained professional could have pulled Van Horn from this wreak without causing her current condition! Let's be practical here.

It concerns me too, because if we suddenly stop helping one another, we're much like the Devil. God believes in us helping. I know because of all the years He's helped us. Not just me and my family, but throughout history. (I doubt this woman was religious, thus the reason this was allowed to happen to her. God doesn't use wrath, ya'll. He just removes Himself from our lives and let's us muck it up.) And it worries me that good samaritians will suddenly disappear.

IF I'M IN A CAR WREAK, PULL ME OUT! BURNING BUILDING AND NO FIREMAN ANYWHERE? HELP ME! I MEAN, WTF! IF I'M IN PERIL, MUCKING HELP ME! (trying *not* to curse here, but it's hard) They interviewed people on the street and some people that had been through a tragic situation and were saved by good samaritians. They said they wouldn't be alive. VAN HORN, WAKE UP AND BE THANKFUL YOU'RE ALIVE! GOD SPARED YOU, NOW GET WITH HIM AND SEE WHY!

freaking crap, man.
